Even with my 1st son it was an obsession of mine to find the perfect diaper bag.. It had to be functional, big enough to carry everything I could need for a week when I was only going to be gone an hour, have a nice look or be cute and it had to have a reasonable price point (because I am cheap).. I went threw a few with my 1st son none that were name brand or anything, in fact the one I kept going back to over and over was a winnie the pooh one that was purchased at walmart for 18.96, so that just goes to show price doesn't really matter.. Since the new diaper bag delima is still fresh in my mind thought I would blog about it maybe it can help someone else in my same position...
This is the first diaper bag I ever purchased for my 2nd son and I thought it was going to be the only one.. It is the skip hop versa it is normally an $80 bag but I was lucky enough to find it for $25 on my local yard sale page or so I thought.. When I seen this for sale brand new I researched it and found good reviews so of course I jumped at it for that price..
Pros..
Has 2 insulated bottle pockets on front
Can unzip middle for more room
Has stroller straps made into bag with grips
Has small mommy pocket on top
Has messenger strap with grips
Looks very cute
Cons..
Once the bag is packed bottles do not fit in pockets
You could unzip that bag 10 in. and not have enough room
Way top zipper is made hard to get into bag
Mommy pocket on top is SMALL (I could only fit my cell in it)
Once fully packed very heavy and since strap is just made of nylon very uncomfortable
The truth is if you breastfeed your baby or have an almost toddler this bag would be great for you but if you have a newborn that is bottle fed you might as well give up.. I realized when I was trying to pack for the hospital and could only get 3 thin blankets and 4 outfits packed (that did not include diapers, wipes, bottles, formula, burp clothes or any essentials) that this bag was not going to work for me.. I did learn that people who do reviews are LIARS, one review said they could fit their newborn and toddlers items in there, I am sorry but can they tell me how (they probably breast fed and their toddler was out of diapers)? Too bad cause this bag was really cute, in my price range but wasn't functional and that is what you need as a mom..
Next came the baby boom diaper bag in the jungle print. I got very lucky with this one found it new at the goodwill for $3, so I had to try it right?
Pros..
So cute
Has a lot of outer pockets
Very big
Good price point (no more than $20 in stores)
Cons..
Not a lot of inner pockets (only one big and flimsy)
Outer pocket on back is big do flimsy doesn't have a clasp of any kind
Does not have messanger strap and because of material on straps doesn't stay on that well
Actually a little too big so when fully packed it is HUGE
This diaper bag was actually pretty good even though it wasn't a "high" end brand I really couldnt beat the price and even if you bought it in store it wouldn't be over $20 even if that.. It just wasnt very functional with only one inside pocket and being so large everything would just get lost in it..
Next came the graco hobo diaper bag in the elephant print.. This was purchased on my local yard sale page for $10 (in stores this was about $30)..
Pros..
Good size bag
2 big size bottle pockets
2 front zipper pockets with smaller mesh bags to help with organization
Adjustable messanger strap
Cons..
Only one flimsy pocket on inside
Big pocket on back doesn't have a clasp of any kind
Pockets are cream colored so show dirt very easily
This would be a great bag if it has more inner pockets and the back pocket had some sort of closure.. I really like the print but with it being cream it show dirt very easily.. Plus with it being so big like the one before it and not having but one pocket the everything gets lost on the inside..
Next came this little gem.. The petunia pickle bottom city carry all in evening in innsbuck.. I got this off of my local yard sale page (getting the theme here) for $30 which is a great deal since this bag is normally $160..
Pros..
Material on bag is glazed so it is easily wiped off
Has shoulder and messanger straps both are comfortable
Front of bag has changing station so easy access to diapers and wipes
Has a lot of inner pockets and outer pockets
Zipper on top completely unzips so you can open the bag up really wide
Cons..
Can not be put in washing machine
Hard to get bottles in pockets on side
Looks big but can't hold a lot
Glazed material makes bag stiff
Diaper compartment on front can't hold a lot
You would think for the price this would be the perfect bag but sadly it is not.. After you get the front packed with diapers and wipes that you need (I even took the changing pad that comes with it out) it pushes the inside of the bag which makes it hard to pack it.. I was really disappointed in this bag it looks so roomy but once you start putting items in, it just doesn't hold everything I need.. Also the zipper at the top is messing up which for the price you pay is unacceptable.. Like I said before this would also be a good bag for some one that is breast feeding or has a toddler that doesn't need much.. It would make a good day bag since most of the time you don't need to much when your just running to the store, but for the normal purchase price it should be able to hold anything you need for any time..
