Nature is Beautiful.... 17 Year Cicadas Come Out in the South

Hello thrifty mommas!! If you did not know I live in the south and about a month ago my boys and I got to witness the beauty of nature. We got to see the cicadas that come out every 17 years and they only stay out for around 2 weeks then they go back into hiding. I was glad to share this experience with oldest son because next time they come around he will be 28 (hopefully he will remember this experience and maybe have a child of his own to share it with)!!! I just made myself really sad, time flies by way too quick, that is something you really learn when you have kids. He loved the experience, he has a love for bugs and plants so this was very exciting for him.
It was also an amazing experience because we were at my grandparents home in the country (it seems they only like to come out in the country because we live closer to town and did not see any near our home). They have passed away but the house is still in the family, we were there with my dad also. I can remember being 5 years old when they came out  in 1986 (I missed the 2003 emerge, I was 21 at the time and did not give a damn, sad really but that is how life is) and my grandad showing them to me. Of course me being the girly girl I was, it did not impress me at all. Now it holds a special place in my heart cause I was spending time with my grandad. I loved it up at their house, they had chickens, cats, dogs and lots of land to run it. It was a good childhood so when I can share the same experience with my kids it is amazing. Just like these creatures that only make an apperance every 17 years.
